"TODAY'S CHALLENGES IN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT"

David Paylor,
Director, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality

As we look forward to our future environmental challenges, we will need to create partnerships for residents every year, putting added pressure on our land, air, and water resources. We need to find adequate drinking water while protecting our streams and lakes; we need to be increasingly vigilant to preserve and restore wetlands; contaminated properties need to be restored; alternate energy sources are needed; recent air quality improvements must continue; and a concerted effort is needed to reverse declines in the Chesapeake Bay. Meeting these and other challenges will require reliable data and our collective commitment to a positive future.
